1 Day Nairobi Tour

Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital, is a dynamic blend of urban sophistication and authentic African culture. With the 1 Day Nairobi Tour, you can experience the city’s best attractions, from wildlife encounters at the Giraffe Centre to the bustling energy of local markets, the mind-bending Museum of Illusions, and the historical landmarks that shaped Kenya’s independence. This 1 Day Nairobi Tour itinerary is designed to maximize your time in the city while offering a genuine taste of Nairobi’s character. Whether you’re a nature lover, history enthusiast, or culture seeker, this packed day delivers memorable experiences and authentic interactions with local communities.

Hotel Breakfast & Preparation

Start your day early with breakfast at your hotel. Wear comfortable walking shoes, light clothing (Nairobi’s altitude means cooler mornings), and bring sunscreen and a hat. Have your phone charged and carry some cash for market interactions and tips.

Giraffe Centre (Langata)

Depart your hotel for the Giraffe Centre, located approximately 15 km south of downtown Nairobi (30-40 minutes depending on traffic). The centre is a sanctuary dedicated to the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, home to around 100 giraffes roaming freely across 140 acres. Upon arrival, you’ll be guided through the facility to observe these majestic creatures up close. The highlight is hand-feeding the giraffes – you’ll feed them from pellets held in your hand while their long tongues gently wrap around your fingers. This intimate interaction is unforgettable and provides excellent photo opportunities. Spend approximately 1.5-2 hours here, exploring the nature trails, visiting the giraffe adoption program office, and learning about conservation efforts. The centre has a small gift shop and café if you need refreshments.

Travel to City Centre & Light Snack

Head back toward downtown Nairobi (30-40 minutes). Stop for a light snack at a local café – try Kenyan samosas, mandazi (fried dough), or fresh tropical fruit. This break helps you reset before the market experience.

Maasai Market Tour

The Maasai Market is held in different locations throughout Nairobi on different days of the week (check schedules before visiting). The market is a sensory explosion of colors, sounds, and smells. Here, Maasai artisans and traders sell handcrafted jewelry, beaded necklaces, wooden sculptures, leather goods, and textiles. Spend 1.5-2 hours browsing and bargaining. Engage with the vendors – they’re usually happy to share stories about their craftsmanship. This is an authentic cultural experience and an excellent place to purchase unique souvenirs.

Lunch at Local Restaurant

Take a break for lunch at a local Kenyan restaurant. Try authentic dishes like nyama choma (grilled meat), ugali (cornmeal staple), sukuma wiki (collard greens), or chapati. Popular lunch spots include restaurants around the Nairobi CBD or the Westlands area.

Museum of Illusions

Head to the Museum of Illusions, located in the Nairobi CBD (Westlands/Village Market area). This interactive museum features mind-bending optical illusions, holographic displays, and immersive rooms designed to challenge perception and create fun photo opportunities. You’ll encounter the Infinity Tunnel, the Upside-Down Room, the Tilted Room, and interactive exhibits that seem to defy physics. Spend approximately 1.5-2 hours here, engaging with displays and taking creative photos. The museum appeals to all ages and provides excellent entertainment and learning value.

Historical Sites & City Centre Exploration

Explore Nairobi’s historical landmarks. Visit the Karen Blixen Museum (if time permits – located 15 km south, author of “Out of Africa”), the Nairobi National Museum (downtown, houses Kenyan art, history, and natural history exhibits), or Parliament Buildings (architectural landmark with available guided tours). Walk through downtown Nairobi to see colonial-era architecture mixed with modern skyscrapers. Visit Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for city views from the observation deck, or explore City Square and the surrounding streets. These areas provide historical context and showcase Kenya’s journey from colonial times to modern independence.

Dinner & Evening

Conclude your day with dinner at a restaurant offering contemporary Kenyan or international cuisine. Popular dining areas include Westlands, Karen, or the Upper Hill neighborhoods. Enjoy a relaxing meal reflecting on your experiences. Head back to your hotel for the evening.

It is a short but rich tour that offers tourists an opportunity to explore some amazing safari destinations in Kenya.

Samburu National Reserve is one of the few places in Kenya that is not touristy. It is home to amazing animals, but it is popular for being home to rhinos. This safari will allow you to track the rhinos and see what else this reserve has to offer. On the other hand, Ol Pejeta Conservancy is not a big place, but it is home to rare species of animals. Here, you will see chimpanzees, leopards, zebras, and many more.

After a warm welcome at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you meet your safari guide, a local expert with a passion for wildlife. Together, you embarked on a scenic drive to Samburu National Reserve. The air filled with excitement as the cityscape gradually gave way to rolling hills and vast savannas.

You stop for lunch at a charming roadside cafe, savoring the local flavors before continuing your journey. After settling in and refreshing yourself, you set out for your first evening game drive.

The golden hour transforms the reserve into a canvas of breathtaking colors. As you drive through the park, your guide points out the unique wildlife Samburu is known for. Some of the animals in Samburu include: the striking Grevy’s zebras and the elegant reticulated giraffes. Each sighting ignits your wonder. As the sun dipps below the horizon, you return to the lodge for a welcoming dinner, recapping the day’s adventures under a blanket of stars.

Day 2: Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

You will be awakened by the call of chirping birds. Join an early morning game drive, the cool air invigorating. The dawn light stream through the acacia trees as you encounter various animals awakening with the day. The thrill of spotting lions and elephants in their natural habitat is exhilarating.

Afterward, a delightful breakfast awaits you, possibly served in the bush (an experience unlike any other). The day unfolds with a visit to a local Samburu village, where you will be warmly greeted by the community. Sharing stories and participating in cultural rituals deepens your connection to the land and its people.

Post-lunch, you have time to relax, perhaps enjoying a swim or simply soaking up the tranquility of the landscape. As the afternoon rolls in, you set off for another game drive, capturing the awe of grazers and predators alike. With each turn of the road, nature reveals its secrets, and you return to the lodge, filled with stories to share as you enjoyed dinner.

Day 3: Transfer from Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

The drive is a medley of landscapes, and soon you find yourself at the doorstep of your next lodge (usually a modern oasis with stunning views).

After settling in and enjoying a tasty lunch, you venture to the Ol Pejeta Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Here, you learn about critical conservation work while observing these incredible primates up close. The experience both both enlightening and heartwarming, bringing you face-to-face with creatures that reflect human emotions and behaviors.

In the evening, you will embark on a game drive within Ol Pejeta. The vast expanse of the conservancy is abundant with life. You delight in the thrill of spotting the elusive rhinos, as well as herds of elephants fostering their young. As day turns to night, the sky transforms into a blanket of stars. You return to the lodge for dinner, reflecting on the day’s wondrous encounters. This marks the end of your 3rd day of the 4 Days Samburu and Ol Pejeta Safari.

You’ve been dreaming of your safari for so long, and now it’s finally about to begin. You’ll meet your guide, who will tell you everything you need to know to get your safari started. We’re as excited as you are to get your trip underway. Nairobi could just be East Africa’s most exciting city, thanks to its buzzing nightlife, well-regarded restaurant scene, and excellent shopping. And it’s more than just a gateway to the safari parks elsewhere in the country. Nairobi also has stellar wildlife and other attractions that make it worth visiting quite apart from exploring further afield.

Evening game drive in Amboseli National Park. You’ll enjoy taking photos of big elephants with Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m) in the background here in Amboseli. You might also see lion, cheetah, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, hyena, wildebeest, and many of the 420 bird species that have been recorded here.

Day 2: Full day in Amboseli National Park

Spend a full day exploring the breathtaking Amboseli National Park, renowned for its large herds of elephants and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. Your day begins with an early morning game drive, the best time to spot a variety of wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and numerous bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch or a hot meal at your lodge or a designated picnic site within the park. In the afternoon, continue your safari adventure through the park’s diverse landscapes—open plains, acacia woodlands, and swamps fed by underground springs from Kilimanjaro. Capture iconic photos of wildlife silhouetted against the majestic mountain before heading back to your lodge for a relaxing evening.

Day 3: Transfer to Tsavo West National Park (En-route game drive)

Tsavo West is a legendary Kenyan park, known for its wild backcountry, famous lions, endangered rhinos, beautiful scenery, and elephants with a reddish hue from taking mud baths in the red Tsavo dust. It’s a fantastic park to explore, and you’ll probably also see hippo, buffalo, hyena, wildebeest, zebra, and giraffe while you’re here. Keep an eye out for leopards too. The birding is first-class, with over 400 different species recorded. Many of the male lions here don’t have manes.

Evening Game Drive, Tsavo West National Park: You’ll love the warm light and cooler temperatures as we take you out to explore on your evening game drive. This time of day is when both predators and prey are most active, and it can feel as though anything could happen at any moment. This is when you’ll most enjoy being on safari.

Day 4: Transfer to Tsavo East National Park (En-route game drive)

Tsavo East National Park offers you so much that you can’t get in other Kenyan parks. These include maneless male lions, elephants coated in red dust, wild, croc-filled rivers in a remote and barren landscape, and even the prized and super-rare hirola antelope. Other wildlife prizes you might see include the gerenuk, cheetah, and the Somali ostrich. Or a sizeable proportion of the over 500 different bird species known to frequent the park. Tsavo East’s varied landscapes also add much personality to your visit.

Evening Game Drive, Tsavo East National Park: Going on an evening game drive is one of the highlights of any safari. This is when temperatures cool, the light becomes softer, and the wildlife begins to get active. Not only will you be out when the light is best for taking photos, but it’s also one of the best times of day for seeing the animals.

Day 5: Transfer from Tsavo East to Diani by Train

After your morning game drive or breakfast at the lodge in Tsavo East National Park, you’ll be transferred to the Voi Railway Station to board the standard gauge train to Mombasa. Enjoy a comfortable and scenic journey through Kenya’s countryside, with chances to spot wildlife along the way. Upon arrival at Mombasa Terminus, a driver will meet you and transfer you by road to your beach resort in Diani. The road transfer includes a ferry crossing at Likoni, giving you a glimpse of the coastal life before arriving at the stunning white sands of Diani Beach for the next part of your safari—relaxation by the Indian Ocean.

Day 6: Full day at Diani Beach

You’ll find it’s easy to fall in love with Diani Beach, one of Kenya’s most beautiful beaches. Pristine sands backed by palm forests make this one of our favorite spots along the Indian Ocean coast, and there are coral mosques, a monkey sanctuary, and a cool beachside vibe to go with the fabulous views.

Day 7: Excursion to Kisite Island – Swim with Dolphins & Snorkeling Adventure

Set out on an exciting full-day excursion to Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, one of Kenya’s premier snorkeling and marine wildlife destinations. Depart from Diani in the morning and head to Shimoni, where you’ll board a traditional dhow boat for a scenic sail through the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean. Along the way, keep an eye out for playful dolphins. If you’re lucky, you’ll have the incredible opportunity to swim alongside them in their natural habitat.

Once at Kisite Island, dive into the vibrant underwater world with guided snorkeling over pristine coral reefs teeming with colorful fish, sea turtles, and other marine life. After your water activities, enjoy a delicious Swahili-style seafood lunch on Wasini Island. This is followed by a relaxed stroll through the local village or optional visits to the coral gardens and slave caves. Return to Diani in the late afternoon, refreshed and inspired by your day in paradise.

Day 8: Full Day at the Beach – Relaxation & Leisure on the Indian Ocean

After days of thrilling safari adventures, unwind with a full day of relaxation on the beautiful shores of Diani Beach. Spend your day soaking up the sun on soft white sands, swimming in the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, or simply lounging under a palm tree with a refreshing drink in hand.

For the more adventurous, optional water activities like jet skiing, paddle boarding, or kite surfing are available. You may also choose to indulge in a beachside massage or explore nearby beach cafés and local shops. Whether you’re looking to relax, explore, or enjoy a bit of both, this beach day is the perfect way to recharge and enjoy Kenya’s stunning coastal charm at your own pace.

Day 9: Catch a Train to Nairobi

After enjoying your time on the coast, you’ll be transferred to Mombasa Terminus to board the standard gauge train to Nairobi. Travel comfortably through Kenya’s diverse landscapes as you head back to the capital. With multiple departure times available, you can choose a train that fits your schedule and arrives in Nairobi at your convenience. Upon arrival, you’ll be met at the station and transferred to your hotel or onward destination. This marks the end of your 9 Days Kenya Wildlife and Beach Safari.
