Details of the Safari

Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Akagera National Park

On this day, your driver will pick you up/guide for the entire 5-day Rwanda Safari and will give you a briefing about this tour. After a short briefing, you will set off for Akagera National Park in the eastern part of Rwanda, which will take you approximately 2 hours. Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s biggest National Park, spanning over 1122 sq km, and is renowned for the Big 5 game drives, where you can spot Rhinos, lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, zebras, and other animal species, including over 500 bird species. Arrive at the park and check into your lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will embark on a short game drive in the park that will introduce you to the ecosystems of the park where you expect to see zebras, giraffes, antelopes, elephants, and buffaloes. Return to the lodge for your dinner with beautiful views of Lake Ihema and a peaceful overnight.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Lake Ihema Boat Cruise

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge and later set off for a morning game drive in the park. Mornings are the best time to spot wildlife in the park since predators and herbivores are still active, and therefore expect to see a variety of wildlife as you navigate through the park, such as lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, impala, eland, and many other animal species. Return to the lodge for lunch.

After Lunch, you will head out for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema, which is Rwanda’s largest Freshwater Lake, offering a thrilling experience for wildlife sightings such as hippos, elephants, crocodiles and water birds such as African fish eagles, cormorants, and kingfishers. Return to the lodge for your overnight and Dinner.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Have a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, and later begin your scenic journey for about 5 hours as you transfer to Volcanoes National Park in the western part of the Country as you navigate through the lush green and rolling hills of the countryside dotted with villages of the local people.

Volcanoes National Park is part of the Virunga Mountains range, known for the existence of mountain gorillas. Other rare animal species include golden monkeys, elephants, and different bird species. This makes it a must-visit destination in Rwanda, whether you are interested in seeing the mountain gorillas or not. Arrive at the park and check into your lodge. You will enjoy a relaxed evening with stunning views of the Volcanoes forests. Have a relaxed dinner and overnight as you prepare for gorilla trekking.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Experience

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge, and later drive to the park headquarters, where you will have a briefing about gorilla trekking, which includes rules and guidelines to follow when observing the gorillas in their natural sanctuary.

After the briefing, we will assign you a gorilla family and an experienced park ranger to lead you into the forest as you search for mountain gorillas for about 1 to 4 hours. Once you find the gorillas, you will spend 1 hour with the gorillas in their presence as you watch them feed, groom, and interact with the rest. Later, you will return to the lodge for your lunch and refreshments.

In the afternoon, you will visit the nearby Iby’Iwacu cultural Village, which is also known as the Gorilla Guardians Village, which showcases the traditional Rwandan life through dances, music, and drama, thus giving you a deeper understanding of the traditional lifestyle of the local people and culture. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali Airport and Departure

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and check out of the lodge. Transfer to Kigali, taking you about 2 hours. Depending on your flight, you may opt to visit local craft markets. Arrive at Kigali International airport and check in for your departure as you conclude your 5 days of Rwanda Safari.

This 5 days Rwanda safari expertly combines adventure, nature, and culture, encompassing gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park, Akagera Big Five game viewing, and Kigali’s cultural exploration.
