When is the perfect time to enjoy a Group safari in Uganda?
Seasons/months shape everything about group safaris in Uganda, from wildlife encounters to travel costs.
Most Ugandan safari destinations are wonderful year-round. June to September is the peak season, while undertaking your group safari in Uganda during the low season (March to May, then November) offers fewer crowds as well as great value.
Many visitors prefer the dry season (June to September) because it is when wildlife gather at water holes and visibility is at its best. However, the perfect time to visit Uganda largely depends on your goals: Whether it is trekking the mountain gorillas and game safaris, enjoying birding in green landscapes, or exploring during quieter times.
Generally, the dry months are ideal for classic safaris, primate treks (gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking), as vegetation is sparser, water is limited in the savannah National Parks, and game viewing is at its best.
The low/green season from March to May is marked by verdant scenery, migratory birds, and dramatic storms. Interestingly, these months are wonderful for photographers and value seekers, although some places might be more difficult to access.
Traveling in the shoulder month of November is also wonderful with fewer crowds, lower rates (especially on accommodation), and still rewarding wildlife viewing.
How far in advance should you book a group safari in Uganda?
The most recommended time to book your group safari in Uganda is at least one year in advance to secure the best accommodation options, gorilla permits for the required sector (if gorilla trekking is part of your safari itinerary), safari guides, and preferred safari dates, especially during the high season. You wouldn’t want to find yourself with a split group, as some members stay at a particular Lodge while others in another Lodge due to availability.
