Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Mgahinga National Park
After landing at Entebbe International Airport, our company representative will greet you and provide a briefing for your safari. A breakfast at a Kampala restaurant will prepare you for the journey to Mgahinga National Park. Along the way, you’ll be treated to a visual feast of Uganda’s equator, terraced highlands, coffee farms, and the iconic Ankole long-horned cattle. Lunch en route at a cultural center will be a culinary adventure, offering a variety of local and international dishes to tantalize your taste buds.
Upon arrival at Mgahinga, you’ll be warmly welcomed at your chosen lodge, where you’ll find a haven of comfort and modern amenities. After a delicious dinner, you can rest assured that you’ll be well-prepared for the exciting day ahead.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community tours
On this second day of the tour, wake up early and have breakfast. Head to the conservation offices to check the gorilla trekking permits. Have a short briefing, then go gorilla trekking. The trek is moderately challenging, requiring a reasonable fitness level. It involves walking on uneven terrain and can be physically demanding. You can see different wild animals like elephants, buffalo, and giant forest hogs during your activity. If you are lucky, you will also see bird species like the striking Rwenzori turaco.
Depending on the gorillas ‘ geographical location, the activity will take about 2-8 hours. Following the trail of the green cover across the slopes of the Virungas, you will spend an hour with the Mountain gorillas. After the activity, you will return to your booked accommodation facility, have your mouthwatering lunch, and prepare for the afternoon optional activity, like visiting the Batwa cultural tour. The Batwa community tour is a unique opportunity to learn about the indigenous people of the forest, their traditional way of life, and their artistic practices.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali
Wild animals are always active in the morning, so wake up early, prepare, and have your breakfast. Depart for the park’s head offices for a brief briefing as you continue the Golden Monkey trek.
Golden monkeys are located in the bamboo forests. It takes about 2-4 hours to trek for golden monkeys, including an hour spent with them as you enjoy their exciting behaviors. They are attracted to the flashlight camera, not like the gorillas, which are frightened by the flashlight. After you trek, return to the lodge for check-out. Get organized for a departure to Kigali in Rwanda for a flight back home. On your way to Kigali, meet some people grazing along the roadside and some doing subsistence farming. This will mark the end of your 3-Day Mgahinga Gorilla and Golden Monkey Safari.
