The 5 Days Rwanda gorillas & Nyungwe chimps combine a visit to see mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural habitats. This primate tour begins with Nyungwe Forest National Park where you will have a guided chimpanzee trek and canopy walk, and cross to Volcanoes National Park for mountain gorilla trekking.

Day 1: Hotel pick up (Kigali capital) & Nyungwe Forest National Park

Our company representative/tour driver will meet and greet you at a hotel in Kigali and he will take you through the 5 Days Rwanda gorillas & Nyungwe chimps trip. At 8:00 am, begin the 6-7 hours drive in a 4×4 vehicle heading to the Southern Provinces in Rwanda. Before getting to Nyungwe Forest NP, you will make a stop visit at the Ethnographic Museum & Kings Palace in Butare. Continue to the nearby restaurant for a lunch break which will be followed by check-in at the lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking (Nyungwe Forest National Park -Southern Province)

Enjoy an early morning cup of tea/coffee and after, you will embark on chimpanzee tracking but first, briefing at the park offices- Uwinka. The search for Nyungwe chimps lasts for 2-4 hours including one hour of a close encounter and photography. This is a primate-rich park, where you will see not only chimps but also other primates such as L’Hoest monkeys, baboons, red-tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, and birds. The afternoon tour includes a canopy walk which allows you to see more primates, forest birds, and magnificent forest canopy.

Day 3: Gorilla trip to Volcanoes National Park (Northern Province)

After breakfast, transfer to the next destination –Volcanoes National Park. This is found in Ruhengeri, Northwestern Rwanda home to endangered mountain gorillas with about 12 habituated gorilla families. As you connect to Volcanoes NP you will also view Lake Kivu and have en-route lunch.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking

Gorilla trekking will be the main highlight of the Volcanoes National Park tour. This primate adventure begins early in the morning after briefing at Kinigi and lasts for 2-6 hours which includes one hour for a close encounter. During or when interacting with a family of gorillas, remember to observe the safety/trekking rules including keeping a distance of about 8 meters away from these large mammals. When you return, relax at the lodge, and in the evening, you will visit the Ibyi’wacu cultural village.

Day 5: Depart for Kigali- city tour

Have a delicious breakfast at the lodge and you will return to Kigali for a city tour. This includes visiting historical or cultural sites like the Gisozi Memorial, the presidential palace museum, Kimironko market and other areas. Retreat and enjoy a leisurely lunch at the restaurant or hotel before transferring to the airport for departure. This will mark the end of your amazing 5 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Nyungwe Chimps safari.
